Today, we’re meeting Grace from Amazing Grace, a celebrant with over thirteen years of experience creating bespoke, personal ceremonies centred around each couple’s story, personalities and wishes.
For couples discovering Amazing Grace for the first time, how would you describe your approach as a celebrant in a few words?
I’d like to think that I’m warm and personable, able to meet the couple’s needs and wishes in a calm and professional way, to make a memorable occasion for everyone present.
I aim to capture a wide range of emotions, from the deeply personal between the couple, to the humorous, the reflective and occasionally the poignant – for absent friends; with everything centred on the couple’s wishes.
Every ceremony I craft is bespoke and individual to the couple. The detailed preparation time I spend with the couple to understand their unique story, their personalities, and what really matters to them is equally important as the big day itself.
I also make a point of engaging with key family members and friends who share the day with them.
With over thirteen years of experience, what first inspired you to become a celebrant, and how has your journey shaped the way you write and hold ceremonies today?
As many people do at certain stages of their lives, I was going through a period of frequent attendance as a guest at ceremonies. I saw different types –and quality. I recognised the formal and the seemingly disconnected but realised quickly that things didn’t need to be that way; I wanted to help make something more personal, meaningful and joyous.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with couples from many different backgrounds and cultures, and walks of life. Every ceremony has taught me something new about love, family, tradition, and human connection. I have learnt that the best ceremonies are about creating and celebrating special memories.
You specialise in creating bespoke ceremonies that avoid fixed scripts. How do you guide couples, especially those who aren't sure where to start, to craft a moment that genuinely reflects their story, tone, and values?
Most couples come to me not sure where to start. My aim is to guide them through a relaxed and enjoyable process. We begin with informal chats, rather than decisions, about their journeys, their milestones, memories and aspirations for life and for the big day and the atmosphere they want to create.
Some couples choose to include cultural traditions, symbolic rituals, readings, music, or contributions from family and friends. Others prefer something beautifully simple. There is no right or wrong approach. My job is to listen carefully, offer suggestions, and help shape all those elements into a ceremony that feels fully their own.
What is your top tip or piece of advice for couples who want their wedding ceremony to feel like a deeply personal highlight of the day rather than just a formal step?
Don’t focus – too much – on what people think a ceremony ‘ought to be’ like to be. What do you want it to be?
The most memorable ceremonies are often where the couple’s own personalities shine through, whether through personalised vows and promises, the inclusion of a funny story or two; a cultural tradition; involving loved ones in a special way; or simply speaking from the heart.
